ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WILL SHAPE OUR LIVES

Three decades ago, Tallinn by the sea was closed by a fence that prevented residents from escaping the Soviet regime . Today is a lively atmosphere both at the capital and at Tallinn University, where students from many European  countries are finding their opportunity.

Estonia has been declared as the most digitally developed country, and they also have the inventor of SKAYP. I was invited to present Artificial Intelligence (AI) from EU point of view.

I challenged the students with questions to which, after my presentation, they added their reflections. Then we shared our findings at a roundtable discussion with professors.

HOW CAN AI IMPROVE PEOPLE’S LIVES AND WHERE ARE THE FEARS?

HOW FARE ARE WE WITH EUROPEAN REGULATIONS IN AI?

WHERE CAN WE FIND PRACTICAL EXAMPLES OF AI?

AI has not only economical impact but also social, cultural and ethical . Data is quickly becoming the most powerful economic driver.  They are the base for algorithms and AI. The corporation like Google, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter owns the data and will shape the future.

AI  is using machine learning processes on the base of algorithms from vast sets of data – web page we visited, our genetics, past purchases, our behavior. Algorithms  will be more and more utilize for decisions making in politics, medicine, banks, traffic… But first of all we  need to build public awareness and acceptance of this new technology.

We need to reinvent our mindset within the digital reality and to find out the positive impact in our daily live. AI would making live easier; solving the health issues like cancer , better prediction in the treatment of disease ,helping by traveling – Google maps, Trip advisers , the robots which would help to the elderly people..

Negative impact would be like fake news, technological unemployment, cyberattack and less privacy.

Digital Europe is one of the fifth priorities of EU for the next five years. Smart policies are needed to regulate intelligent machine.  EU Commission prepared White Papers about AI, which will be the base for further regulations. EP adopted many resolutions in terms of AI like responsible development and use of AI.

The practical use of AI is today  by Coronavirus.

It’s about health monitoring platform from the high tech company following coronavirus and reporting about the consequences. Their sources are:

global airlines tickets data,  physician community web site, social media posts for signs of symptoms such as fever or breathing problems.

The practical use of AI we can also see by US elections with new campaign technology Republicans versus Democrat. The candidates spent millions USD on Facebook and Google for campaigning . Algorithm and machine learning helps to micro targeting voters through social media.

AI WILL SHAPE THE POLITICAL DECISION AND WILL SHAPE OUR LIVES. BUT THERE IS NOT BETTER CHOICE. IT’S LIKE A DEMOCRACY. IT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH BUT BETTER THEN ALL THE OTHERS SYSTEMS LIKE COMMUNISM AND FASCISM.
